Dr. Avram Denburg, Course Co-Director

Dr. Avram Denburg received his medical degree from McMaster University in 2006. He completed both a residency in paediatrics and a fellowship in Haematology/Oncology at SickKids.

Dr. Denburg has a Master of Science in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Health Policy from McMaster University. He trained at Harvard University as a Pediatric Scientist Development Program Fellow.  

Dr. Denburg’s research focuses on the political, ethical and economic dimensions of child health policy, in both local and global contexts, with specific focus on pharmaceutical policy and drug coverage decisions for children

Dr. Sumit Gupta, Course Co-Director

Dr. Sumit Gupta is a Staff Oncologist and Clinician Investigator at SickKids, an Associate Professor at both the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and an Adjunct Scientist with the Cancer Research Program at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. He completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, during which time he was supported by a CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Fellowship Award.

He is one of the Assistant Chairs of the Lancet Oncology Commission on Sustainable Paediatric Cancer Care in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Gupta has worked extensively with pediatric oncologists and policymakers throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and India. He currently holds grant funding from The Garron Family Cancer Centre, CIHR and the Terry Fox Research Institute.
